Sounds great..its really the truth. I still find small businesses intimidated by the ‘social media’ take over. Times have change, the game is changed, and social media allows for a wonderful 2-way free following dialogue between business & consumers. In fact recently I even experienced a major brand misusing the social media opportunity to effectively retain brand ambassadors and fans.

I look forward to reading more from you and I am also excited to continuing my participation in the tech/media space.

And you know, none of this is really new – businesses have been doing “social” for a long time – now, it’s just with a global reach and at the speed of light! But the principles of that dialog you were talking about are just the same. It’s all about relationships. That’s where big business will flub up because, to them, it’s just another fad; to the small biz, relationships are a way of life.

      Thanks for reading, RJ!

  2. Great point Russell. People + Relationships + Fans/Non-Fans are #1. Let me expand on my previous comment in regards to several big corps/brands that are still ignoring the social media importance and how to engage fan relationships

Follow the link and see this amazing contest put on by 2 huge brands. The result was I was never acknowledged for my efforts and the national contest fizzed out into thin air. the 2 brands failed to embrace a fan who had exceed their own expectations. The high point was I caught the attention of Coca Cola World Wide Marketing Director Mr. Michael Donnelly.

My story as a fan is a current reminder of the importance of Social Media and the power of fans that embrace their favorite brands which can lead those few loyal fans into becoming brand ambassadors. I pretty much realized that the contest sponsors forgot to secure their own website and social media pages…so I proudly did it for them.
