Author FAQ

  • I hail from: Vancouver, Washington. I was born in California and raised in Florida and Utah before landing in the Pacific Northwet.
    .
  • My family: Two children, one fiancée, two dogs, and a live-in business. They keep me fairly busy.
    .
  • My favorite quote: “We shall go on to the end … We shall fight in France … We shall never surrender!” – Churchill
    .
  • My most embarrassing moment: I once killed a car with a feminine hygiene product. Seriously. I don’t think I should say anything more.
    .
  • I would dress for a costume party as: Willy Wonka.
    .
  • The most dangerous thing I have done: I mostly sit behind a desk all day so danger is rather relative. I suppose I’ve “lived on the edge” by getting a tatoo on my back and most people who’ve had tatoos will tell you that’s the easiest, wussiest place to get a tattoo, so take it for what it’s worth.
    .
  • My favorite hideaway: The Washington and Oregon Coast, and more specifically a few bed and breakfasts out that way. I think I already mentioned that I’m mostly sedentary …
    .
  • You will never see me: With my mouth closed.
    .
  • My hobby is: Creating.
    .
  • You would never believe: That I spent 8 minutes as a fast food employee. I put on the polyesther uniform and immediately resigned. I believe I earned 45-cents after taxes. Yes, a glorious stint in the restaurant industry that convinced me that I really wanted to do something else with my time.
    .
  • I started writing because: I’d always wanted to write yet I didn’t like the mechanisms that existed in the publishing industry before the rise of ebooks. It always seemed royally unfair; i.e., there wasn’t anything in it for me. Like everybody else, I now have the ability to control the content, distribution, and marketing for the books that I write. Boo-ya.
    .
  • What is the most important element to writing about technology: Simplicity. It’s important to keep the conversation light and casual, the issues relevant to my small business audience, and to avoid geeky-jargon to the greatest extent possible.
    .
  • My most recent book: is SIMPLE SOCIAL MEDIA, the first of the Simple Books product line. My next project, SIMPLE FACEBOOK INSIGHTS, is due for release in April 2011.
